语言文化研究
SIL 东亚部的研究员们都具备相当的学术水平, 且致力于不同的语言研究工作。其中至少有10位研究员拥有博士学位，有超过30位研究员拥有语言学硕士学位。有些研究员或出版有关中国境内语言研究的书籍，或在国内外的语言学学术专着上发表文章，或在不同的语言学学术会议中发表论文。
SIL 东亚部的研究人员通常居住在地点偏僻、民风纯朴、经济发展滞后的少数民族地区。 他们积极与当地学术或政府部门合作，协助当地人民对其族群语言文化进行保留并加以发展。由于学习当地的语言, 研究人员们能够更好地与当地人民交流，提供实际的协助； 同时也开阔了语言学、人类学、民族音乐学方面的知识。东亚部研究人员的研究性质多种多样，涉及语言、文化的各个方面，例如：语言系统描述、文化研究、方言调查、民歌收集和整理、词典编纂等等。

Language and Culture Research
EAG members are engaged in all kinds of language development work. They are highly qualified in their fields. At the present time, about a dozen of our members hold PhDs, over 30 have MAs, and several have published books or articles on the languages of China. They regularly attend conferences and present papers about their research.
They live among the people of minority communities, who often live in geographic, social, and economic isolation. In partnership with these communities, SIL helps to develop in them appropriate skills and capacity to preserve their cultures and languages. Studying their languages results in practical help for local people and contributes to the broader knowledge of linguistics, anthropology, and ethnomusicology. Some examples of the kinds of language research that SIL members do are linguistic description, cultural studies, dialect surveys and lexicography.
