2007年度进展报告

中国拥有悠久的历史和丰富的文化遗产。我们看到56个民族通过其传统的服饰、饮食、风俗、信仰和民间故事等来体现它们各自独特的文化特点，而其中最真特色的就是它们的语言。每一个民族都是独特的，而这些民族却共同组成了整个中华民族。我们SIL珍爱每一种文化合语言。甚至，我们也关注到了在每一个民族当中的许多亚文化群。正如在汉文化中，我们也能够看到譬如粤语和粤菜这样的亚文化。同样的，在彝族中，我们可以看到至少有六个方言和风俗都不同的支系。每一个这样的民族，不管他们是远至偏远山区的西藏牧民，还是在低洼之地的壮族农夫，都有值得我们去学习和保留的独特之处。

Progress Report 2007

China has a long history and a rich heritage. We see the 56 ethnic groups expressing that heritage through cultural characteristics like traditional clothing, food, customs, beliefs, stories and especially through their languages. Each is unique, and together they make up the totality that is China. We in SIL value every one of these cultures and languages. In fact, we even value the many sub-cultures within the ethnic groups: Just as the Han have sub-cultures such as Cantonese language and cuisine, so the Yi, for example, have at least six separate groups with distinct languages and customs. All of them, be they remote mountain-dwelling pastoralists like the Tibetans, or lowland farmers like the Zhuang, have distinctives worth studying and preserving.
