世界少数民族语文研究院(SIL) 50年来一直致力于研究世界各地鲜为人知的语言。我们专门记录、研究并发展这些语言。目前，SIL已经在50多个国家完成研究1,320种语言，涉及使用这些语言的人口约有三亿五千万。这项工作不仅使各民族以至于全世界认识人类语言的丰富，也为这些语言群体带来福祉。SIL的合作伙伴包括地方政府、国际民间组织以及大专院校。SIL东亚部自1983年起开始在中国寻求机会与相关单位合作，开展语言学方面的研究项目。

SIL East Asia Group

SIL International has been working in many countries around the world for more than 50 years to study, develop and document the world's lesser-known languages. This work has not only contributed to national and international understanding of the richness of human languages, but has also served to contribute to the well-being of the peoples themselves. Partnerships are formed with host governments, non-governmental organizations and universities. SIL has carried out linguistic investigation in 1320 languages, spoken by 350 million people in more than 50 countries.

In 1983, the East Asia Group of SIL International began seeking out cooperative linguistic opportunities with partners in the People's Republic of China.
